Business Profile Websites Will Be Turned Off By Google In March 2024
Websites created with Google Business Profiles will be deleted in March. Customers who try to visit those websites will be automatically redirected to your Business Profile until June 10. After this date, visitors will receive a “page not found” error.
If your marketing campaign is linked to a website using Google Business Profile, you can either modify the link before March 1 to keep your ads running or halt them.
Google is making significant changes to its business profile pages, which could impact its operations.
A business profile is a great location for brands to
- Display information about the business.
- Share relevant information, updates, and links to other social media platforms.
- Use images to entice customers.
- Let clients know how to contact the company via texts or phone calls.
Google gives users with business profiles a three-month grace period before closing the connected websites.
The business recently announced its plan to discontinue websites developed with Google Business Profiles. Specifically, the internet giant stated that beginning in March of this year, websites built using Google company accounts will be disabled, returning users to their default company accounts instead.
Why we care
Businesses that want to keep their website have to build a new site with alternative tools and then update their Business Profile with the new site address before the deadline to guarantee a smooth transfer. Not only will this affect several companies, but it will also be a major challenge for those who have created — and wish to maintain — many profiles, such as for different locations or divisions within the company.
What should I do now that I have a website created using a Google Business Profile?
If you have a website developed with a Google Business Profile, you should follow the procedures below to ensure your online presence remains consistent:
1. Alternative tools
Google recommended choosing one of the following platforms to develop a new website for your business:
- Wix.
- Squarespace.
- GoDaddy.
- Google Sites.
- Shopify, WordPress.
2. Update your Google Business Profile and other web platforms.
If you’ve set up a custom domain to send traffic to your Google Business Profile website, visits to that domain will be diverted to your profile until June 10. To manage this transition, log in to your hosting business account and use the “Redirect” option or a similar function to redirect your third-party domain to a different website before the deadline.
3. Adjust your advertising campaigns.
If you have any Google ads or social media campaigns that point to your Google Business Profile website, change the URLs in your advertising to the new one. This should be completed by March 1st to avoid any influence on your ad performance.
4. Inform your customers.
Inform your consumers of the change in your website address so they know where to locate you online.
